In the mid-20th century, Western music came to define not only the Southwest, but an entire era in the national imagination. In Wickenburg, “The Dude Ranch Capital of the World”, artists like Hank Williams, Roy Rogers, and Marty Robbins would have been the soundtrack to every “dude’s” Western vacation. By pairing popular music of the time with art, artifacts, and photographs from the Desert Caballeros Western Museum’s collection, Playlist: Hits from the Museum Collection recalls a nostalgic evocation of the West, full of open spaces and open opportunity.
