Marking International Museum Day 2022: The Power of Museums

May 18, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

May 18 we will be marking International Museum Day, 2022. The theme this year is “The Power of Museums”. According to a statement published on the International Council of Museums website, “Museums have the power to transform the world around us. As incomparable places of discovery, they teach us about our past and open our minds to new ideas — two essential steps in building a better future. On International Museum Day 2022, which will take place on May 18th, we want to explore the potential of museums to bring about positive change in their communities”. DCWM’s mission to share the diverse stories, cultures and experiences of the West and its vision for greater community engagement to expand the understanding of values and traditions of the West embrace this potential.

“The Museum promotes Wickenburg as a destination for day trips and this inspires visitors to stay, eat and enjoy other local attractions. When these visitors return home to Maricopa and Yavapai Counties, their effusive compliments about their time in Wickenburg encourage future visits by friends and family. This multiplies the positive economic impact we have on local merchants. Some visitors to the Museum stay overnight in area hotels. These visitors also spend money at local businesses. These cultural tourists are a big part of the local economy,” Executive Director Dan Finley said in a statement about the Museum’s impact on Wickenburg.
