20th Annual Cowgirl Up!
March 28, 2025 – May 25, 2025
In 2005, Desert Caballeros Western Museum embraced a revolutionary idea: an annual exhibition showcasing the brightest contemporary female artists working in the Western genre. In the male-dominated world of Western Art, Cowgirl Up! turned the spotlight squarely on women’s voices and perspectives, serving up a new, deeper understanding of the American West. Over a decade later, CU! remains one of the major national events for Western women artists.
The History of Santa Claus
December 18, join us for an enchanting lecture, “The History of Santa Claus”, presented by Dr. Eduardo Pagán. This fascinating presentation begins at *11 a.m.* in the museum’s Cultural Crossroads Learning Center (CCLC). Explore the rich history and evolution of Santa Claus, from his roots in European folklore to his modern-day image. This is a perfect event for history buffs and holiday enthusiasts alike! Included with paid Museum admission, kids 17 and under are free with an adult. Always free for members.
BearCat Family Friday presented by The Etnyre Foundation
Make fake snow! Family Friday this Friday, Dec. 6 from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Join us in the Learning Center and get creative making your own craft to take home. This month features a fake snow craft made with baking soda and shaving cream!
“The Art of Lone Wolf”
Lecture on Hart Merriam Schultz, also known by his Blackfoot name, Lone Wolf (Nitoh Mahkwii or Ni-tah-mah-kwi-i), was an Indian artist of the twentieth century. Most of his work was done in either Arizona or Montana, after he completed his artistic studies in Los Angeles and Chicago. He would spend his summers in a tipi studio in Montana, and his winters in Arizona, either in Tucson, or at the studio his father created for him at Butterfly Lodge, in Greer, Arizona.

Veteran’s Day
In honor of this day and in honor of the many who served, Veterans and their family members get free admission on Veterans Day, Monday November 11, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Miranda and the Story of the “Right to Be Informed”
Thursday, November 7 at 11:00 a.m. in the Museum’s Cultural Crossroads Learning Center, hear our very own Dr. Eduardo Pagán give a brief talk about the backstory of the statement, “You have the right to remain silent”. Learn about the history of the Supreme Court decision that has roots in Arizona. The lecture is included with paid Museum admission. Free for kids 17 and under with an adult; free for Members. Exploring the Many Layers of Mixed Media
Many of you have seen the vibrant, beautiful artwork created by Wickenburg Art Club member Gina Beck of Gina’s Place in downtown Wickenburg. This demonstration will give viewers an insight into how Gina uses a variety of media in her work including inks, spray paint, stencils, and acrylics. As Gina works her magic painting a flower-laden horse, she will also share her creative process and how she keeps her creative energy flowing.

Safety in the desert is of the utmost importance! Learn what to do if you spot these creatures in the wild which; ones are venomous? Which are not. How venomous are they?

National Day of the Cowboy
Celebrate with us on the 19th Annual National Day of the Cowboy, Saturday July 27, 2024. The DCWM will mark National Dayof the Cowboy with a family activity until 1:30 p.m. Start the day with a “Buckaroo Passport.” We will have eight centers for visitors to explore and be given a sticker for their passport. Also make time to check out the Museum Store or Ranch Dressing to browse and shop for anything Western your home might need!
West of Center: Highlights from the Wickenburg Art Club Public Preview
It’s time again for the Wickenburg Art Club’s “West of Center: Highlights from the Wickenburg Art Club” exhibition and sale! The Museum is pleased to present this community-curated exhibition of some of the Art Club’s finest works again this summer. The twelfth in the series, the show displays the local talent of the Wickenburg Art Club in its many forms. Proceeds benefit the Art Club and the artists.

Father’s Day at the DCWM!
Come to the Museum on Father’s Day! Dads get free admission and dads also get one non-alcoholic “Prickly Pear Papa” beverage (while supplies last) in the Museum’s Learning Center. To make sure dad looks the part, we will have a Father’s Day card making activity for attendees. Admission is always free for Museum Members and for children 17 and under.

Third Annual Western Woman of Distinction Luncheon RSVP
The Cowgirl Up! Western Woman of Distinction Luncheon and the “Elizabeth Hudson Smith Award” ceremony is set to take place on April 9 at 12 p.m. in the Desert Caballeros Western Museum’s Cultural Crossroads Learning Center (CCLC) located on 10 N Tegner St., Wickenburg, AZ 85390. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Lecture: Tom Zoellner, “Rim to River”
Tom Zoellner, “Rim to River” in the CCLC. Booksigning after lecture. Tom Zoellner, a fifth-generation Arizonan, is the author of eight nonfiction books, including The Heartless Stone, Uranium, The National Road, and Island on Fire, which won the 2020 National Book Critics Circle Award and was a finalist for the Bancroft Prize.
