Eclectic: Works on Paper from the Permanent Collection
Eclectic features a diverse collection of works on paper, including paintings, drawings, photographs, and prints, promising a unique viewing experience. Each artwork, regardless of the medium, offers a distinct perspective, inviting Museum guests to explore the unending diversity of materials, techniques, approaches, and aesthetic concepts.
This exhibition from the Museum’s permanent collection showcases a fascinating universe of artistic imagery, exemplified by artworks such as Georgia O’Keeffe’s 1940s drawing, Untitled (Ghost Ranch Patio), a recent acquisition from The Dita and John Daub Western Women’s Art Acquisition Fund to George Elbert Burr’s Whirlwinds – Mohave Desert – Calif #3 and Charles M. Russell’s Mounted Arab.
The art reflects the mind, intellect, and at times the spiritual depths of the artists represented in this show. The selections offer the viewer serious contemplation and study as with Lon Megargee’s linocut of a Lone Cowboy that appears to reveal Megargee’s psyche. Edward Borein’s, The Prospector provides a strong visual appeal with careful restraint. It also reveals his respect for careful techniques, consideration of the limitations of the form, and his mastery of the medium. Dan Budnik’s silver gelatin photograph entitled Georgia O’Keeffe After Supper, Ghost Ranch delivers a visually and psychologically powerful image of the famous artist. Like many of the artworks in this exhibition, Budnik’s 1975 portrait of O’Keeffe has the power to evoke a sense of timelessness.
