Information for Visitors

Wheelchair
All of the Museum’s exhibitions are accessible by a wheelchair, and all public floors of the Museum can be reached by elevator. An accessible restroom is located on the upper floor of the Main Museum.

Both the Main Museum and the Cultural Crossroads Learning Center have a wheelchair for visitors to borrow on an unreserved basis for use within their respective buildings. The wheelchairs, which are manually operated, may not be taken outside the buildings due to an inclined sidewalk between the Main Museum and the Cultural Crossroads Learning Center.

Deaf or Hard of Hearing
Video presentations within exhibitions are open captioned. The Museum’s GuidePORT™ audio system is compatible with induction loops and T-coil technology. GuidePORT™ audio devices also double as Assisted Listening Devices for programs in the Cultural Crossroads Learning Center.

Blind or Partially Sighted
The Museum offers a hands-free GuidePORT™ audio system that provides commentary and information to enhance the exhibitions.

Developmental, Learning, or Sensory Disabilities
The Museum is rarely crowded, but the summer months from May – September are usually less busy, quieter times of the year to visit. Visitation will vary depending on holidays, school vacations, weather, and other factors. Generally, the Museum is busier in the morning hours.

Sound levels vary by exhibit. The “Speaking of Wickenburg” exhibition on the Main Museum’s lower level contains sound effects that include animals, trains, and music. Consider bringing noise reducing headphones to reduce sensory input.

Entrances

The Desert Caballeros Western Museum consists of three separate buildings: the Main Museum, the Cultural Crossroads Learning Center and the Administrative Offices/Ranch Dressing. All main entrances are accessible with the exception of the Cultural Crossroads Learning Center, where the accessible entrance is on the north side.

Parking
The Desert Caballeros Western Museum does not provide parking, but there are designated accessible spaces, serviced by the Town of Wickenburg, directly in front of the Main Museum.

Service Animals
Service dogs specially trained to assist a person with a disability are welcome in all Museum buildings. The dog must be trained to provide assistance to a person with a disability. Visitors are not allowed to bring emotional support animals into the Museum.

Calendar of Events
This calendar highlights some of the programs and activities that will be happening at the Museum.
