Lucy Dickens

Arizona

Before Lucy Dickens puts brush to canvas creating phenomenal scenes from nature, she personally experiences them. She is drawn to light and shadow and the interplay within. Her award-winning paintings are unique—because she’s also a storyteller of fine art. Her paintings focus on landscapes, botanicals and wildlife, and each piece comes to life as she shares her writings, seeking to bring you along on the journey with her. Not only are the sights, sounds, and experiences expressed through her work, her deep faith is also woven through her life and creativity. While her Southwest paintings are the most collected, she loves traveling on a wonderful vacation adventure and then returning to complete a new painting series like African Safari, Mediterranean Coastal, Italy and Spain, New England Fall, and Journey Through the Holy Lands.

Lucy’s fine art paintings have been published many times in media, including several interviews and news segments. Her award-winning paintings are highly collected nationally and internationally, both in personal and corporate collections.

Lucy’s artistic talents emerged in her early years when her parents—one a photographer and the other a watercolorist—introduced her to how art can capture the beauty of nature. She soon developed a sharp eye and zeal for the outdoors. “From the first time I put brush to canvas I knew this is what I was supposed to be doing. This is who I am,” she expresses. The more she paints, the more a deep passion and sense of purpose fulfills her. “This is my calling,” she says.

Lucy began her journey in charcoal sketching and then acrylic painting before transitioning to oil painting in 2005. She has mastered her own unique style over the years—but not without in-depth training. She directed her art education, first by taking workshops and absorbing books and videos. Then she continued learning through expert one-on-one instruction from seasoned art professionals and classes and workshops at the Scottsdale Artists’ School.
